Introduction

Crowthorne Archers is primarily a target archery club, and the majority of our members shoot the recurve bow, but of course we'd welcome almost all other forms of bow (e.g., longbow, etc.) to the club. Unfortunately the following CANNOT be accommodated:

  • Carbon-only Arrows - we shoot on a Cricket pitch and therefore arrows must be detected using metal detectors

We invite people of all ages to try archery and enjoy the sport with us. Archery is particularly suited to whole family participation, and we provide properly qualified and insured instruction together with all of the equipment necessary to start and learn. The basics of the sport are easy to learn, with no significant physical requirements, and only require a responsible attitude. Please visit the "Becoming an Archer" page to see more about what we can offer.

Many of our Archers shoot purely for recreation, but others have worked hard at their shooting and have been very successful in competitions. Some of our members have represented Berkshire in the adult recurve, adult longbow and junior teams. Our junior members have been particularly successful, many having held British records. One represented Great Britain in 2004 and another in 1996.

Visitors are always welcome to come and shoot with us, but please do bring your Archery GB Membership Card or some form of recognition of membership of another club (receipt for payment, etc.) - this is required for insurance purposes and we cannot allow visitors to shoot without that proof of capability.

Where and When

During the summer months we shoot outdoors on Tuesday and Thursday evenings (meet at around 5:30pm to set up the field, then start shooting at 6pm), and then again on Sunday mornings (meet at around 9:30am to set up the field, then start shooting at 10am). During the winter we shoot on a Wednesday evening (6pm to 8pm) and a Saturday afternoon at the local sports hall (3pm to 5pm), and outdoors on a Sunday morning (weather permitting, meet at 9:30am to set up the field, then start shooting at 10am).
